AUSTRAC enrolment opened 31 March 2026. If you provide designated services as a Tranche 2 entity, you must enrol with AUSTRAC by 29 July 2026 โ just 30 days away. Here's exactly how to do it.
Step 1: Confirm you provide a designated service
Before enrolling, confirm your business provides at least one designated service under the AML/CTF Act. Tranche 2 designated services include:
- Lawyers: property, trust, company and asset transfer matters
- Accountants: company formation, trust administration, tax services
- Real estate professionals: any service related to buying, selling or transferring real estate
- Conveyancers: any property transfer service
- Trust and company service providers: forming or managing companies, trusts or partnerships
- Dealers in precious metals and stones: cash transactions of $10,000+
- Virtual asset service providers: any virtual asset exchange or transfer service
Step 2: Gather your information
To enrol you will need:
- Your business name and ABN
- Business address and contact details
- The designated service(s) you provide
- Details of your AML/CTF Compliance Officer (name, email, phone)
- Information about your business structure
Step 3: Complete enrolment via the AUSTRAC Online portal
Go to AUSTRAC Online (online.austrac.gov.au) and create or log into your account. Select "Enrol as a reporting entity" and complete the enrolment form. The process typically takes 20โ40 minutes.
Step 4: Notify AUSTRAC of your Compliance Officer
Within 14 days of enrolment (or by 30 May 2026 if you were enrolled before 31 March 2026), you must notify AUSTRAC of your AML/CTF Compliance Officer. This person must be at management level โ a senior partner, principal, or dedicated compliance manager.
What happens after enrolment?
After enrolling, your AML/CTF obligations begin immediately. You must have a written AML/CTF program in place, conduct KYC before providing designated services, and submit reports to AUSTRAC as required.
What if I miss the deadline?
Providing a designated service for 28 or more days without enrolling attracts civil penalties โ up to 60 penalty units per day for a body corporate ($18,780/day at current rates). Enrol now, even if your program isn't complete โ you can continue to develop your procedures after enrolment.
